Anima Gemeindebau — Thürnlhofstraße in a New Light

For the Thürnlhofstraße 22 housing complex in Vienna-Simmering we created a site-specific facade projection. On 4 April 2025 more than 400 enthusiastic spectators gathered at Mosaikplatz by staircase 15 to witness a breathtaking combination of light, sound and dance.

At the heart of the piece stood the building’s own striking architecture: with its 16 tower-like structures grouped into six clusters, Thürnlhofstraße stands apart from earlier Viennese building forms and is a distinctive piece of the city’s architectural history. These very structures became the canvas for an immersive audiovisual experience that we composed specifically for the facade.

Residents were not only the audience but part of the work itself: across three dance workshops on 20 March, 27 March and 3 April at SI:JU in Pantucekgasse 13, many participants developed a dance performance together with The Here & Now Collective Vienna — which became the celebrated highlight of the evening on 4 April.

Anima Gemeindebau was created as part of wohnpartner’s Kulturlabor Gemeindebau, turning public space into a shared experience of art, neighbourhood and city for one evening.
