Anima PSK is a façade projection onto the Austrian Postal Savings Bank in Vienna, examining the interaction between architecture and its environment in an audiovisual composition. The structure of Otto Wagner’s first building in the formally austere style of modernism serves as the material starting point, both sonically and visually: analysing the façade produces a natural rhythmisation — an audiovisual grammar that reveals the systemic, mathematical character of Wagner’s work. Overlays of façade elements and sound lead to geometric deconstruction and a reinterpretation of architectural forms and materials.

Engaging with the genius loci of the site, a fragmentary dialogue unfolds across the façade. Acoustic accents push from the inside out — recordings hinting at the building’s renovation and the presence of (media) artists since the University of Applied Arts moved into the former bank. The boundaries of the façade are broken; new structures, colours, and forms make the building appear as a living organism.

The ten-minute composition unfolds in four phases: reprojection of the façade texture with a virtual day-night cycle; analysis and rhythmisation of the façade elements — side risalits, ornament, bolts, windows, balcony — whose linearity recalls a drum machine; the breaking of the façade with granular synthesis and coloured, organic-digital structures emerging from within; resolution and return to a realistic daylight rendering. All sounds are based on field recordings made on site — forecourt, traffic, the banking hall, and the acoustic resonances of marble, granite, steel, and glass, recorded with contact objects directly on the building.

In parallel to the projection on Georg-Coch-Platz, the work was shown as an object installation at Galerie Krinzinger Schottenfeld: a free-standing façade relief at 1:20 scale (130 × 145 cm, milled and joined MDF construction, approx. 65 kg), animated with the reprojected composition and four-channel sound.

TECHNIK / TECHNICAL

3D-Modellierung der Fassade auf Basis von Originalplänen Otto Wagners (WAGNER:WERK Museum) und Fotoreferenzen; modulare, geschlossene Körper in parametrischen Gruppen — Marmorfliesen in 25 Skalierungen. Produktion in Blender 3.5, TouchDesigner und Unreal Engine; Sweetspot-Reprojektion über eigenen TouchDesigner-Patch (virtuelle Kamera mit Optik und Brennweite des realen Projektors), Input/Output-Mapping und Warping in Resolume Arena 7.

Projektion: Panasonic 20.000-ANSI-Lumen-Laserprojektor, 1920 × 1200 px, auf den Mittelteil der Fassade — ca. 540 m² (30 × 17 m), Projektionsunterkante 7,5 m über Straßenniveau, Fenster ausmaskiert. Installation auf eigens konstruiertem, beschwertem Projektorturm (3 m, Projektor auf 2,2 m) mit physischem Blendschutz zum Straßenverkehr. Vierkanal-Soundsystem um die Grünfläche des Vorplatzes.
