BERGSILVESTER INNSBRUCK

bergsilvester / 3d-fassadenmapping — fassadenprojektion

For Bergsilvester 2025/26 (“Layers of Life”), Hand mit Auge — under the artistic direction of Jakob Hütter — worked two façades in Innsbruck’s old town: St. Jacob’s Cathedral and the Hofburg. The format, run by the City of Innsbruck, turned several of the city’s buildings into large-scale projection surfaces daily from 5 pm, 30 December to 10 January.

St. Jacob’s Cathedral. Here the façade became an immersive stage, built like a media opera. The basis was a full 3D scan of the cathedral; the image spaces were developed directly from its point cloud. The leitmotif was a river dividing a valley, a symbolic image for Innsbruck. The sound was composed by Jakob Schauer in close collaboration with Jakob Hütter, Xaver Hopfgartner and Jascha Süss; motion graphics and animation came largely from Xaver Hopfgartner, the light design from Thomas Kloibhofer. Mapping was realised in Pixera (mapping: Lucas Dikany).

Hofburg. The Hofburg projection drew on the context of the city: organic and digital materialities, the row of houses along the Inn, the Nordkette range, and Innsbruck’s Olympic winter motif. Mapping of the Hofburg façade was handled by Lichtermacher. On New Year’s Eve, Xaver Hopfgartner ran the Hofburg façade and an adjacent LED wall with his own visuals.
